Platinum Antique Engagement Ring Custom and Reasons

It is long known that an engagement ring is presented when the man proposes to a woman, and is rich in meanings. In the United States and many European countries, you would find that the woman wears the engagement ring on her left finger.

By wearing this ring, she is saying that she has consented to the proposal and will be marrying the man who presented the ring to her. They have agreed to be married at a date set in the near future. This tradition began hundreds of years ago and extends till today. Some have even proposed that the man should also be carrying a symbol of this marriage arrangement, so, sometimes a woman will also present a ring to the man she has intention to marry.

Some countries in northern Europe have a custom where both the man and woman wear the engagement ring. In some countries, the same ring is used as an engagement and a wedding ring for the couple. There are also other countries where the engagement ring represents the desire of the couple to marry. The duration of the engagement varies with couples. The couple can stay engaged for a few weeks, a few months or possibly a whole year. During this period, the couple has the opportunity to plan for their coming wedding and their future together.

Traditionally, an engagement ring comes with a diamond. It is slide onto the finger in which the wedding ring will be placed later during the wedding ceremony. Purchasing a diamond ring is a significant investment, which also shows the earnest intention of the man who proposes.

These rings are commonly set in gold. But a platinum, antique engagement ring is a step away from the usual ring because it is made of very unique metal. A platinum, antique engagement ring would cost more than the traditional ring, as platinum is more costly than gold. Some may be fooled by its outward presentation because it looks more like silver than gold. As a result, some people conclude that it is silver and is less valuable than gold.

Another reason that a platinum, antique engagement ring is more valuable than the ordinary engagement ring is that it has probably been around for some time. It may have a significant history to tell, rendering it to be full of sentimental value. More often than not, it could be a ring passed down from one generation to another – one that once belonged to the beloved grandmother of the bride or groom.
