Design and Build Your Own Engagement Ring
Anyone would agree that it is almost an insurmountable task to find a perfect engagement ring while one is in the jewelry store. After all, there are all kinds of stones, settings, and metals to choose from. Does it mean one can never find the ring that is just right for his or her special someone?
While this can be headache in the past, it no longer is now, as the answer to this problem is gaining popularity in recent years and is here to stay. Today, couples are designing their own engagement rings. By doing so, they are able to select not only the stone, setting and metal used but the accents and band as well. What better way to build an everlasting reminder of your exceptional love for your future spouse than by building your own unique engagement ring?
You start by deciding what you want the center stone to be. Diamonds are one of the most ordinary center stones found in engagement rings. However, don’t let this restrict your decision. You see, the best thing about creating your own engagement ring is that you can wish for whatever stone you want, be it a diamond, pearl, an opal, a sapphire, a ruby, or even an emerald! The possibilities are endless! However, pearls and opals are not normally used in engagement rings because they are too smooth. Singling out the center stone is a crucial step to take before you determine the setting of the ring.
Another factor to look into when you build your own wedding engagement ring is what metal you want to use. Do you prefer a more traditional look? A classic gold wedding band may appeal to you. Or do you gravitate towards a more contemporary style? Then silver, platinum, or white gold is the look for you. The type of metal you choose depends largely on your personal style and budget. For example, metals like gold or white gold are cheaper than platinum. Eventually your chosen metal should highlight the center stone that you select for your ring.
Alternatively, many people embellish their ring with other accents, such as, side stones, filigree designs and engravings. The inclusion of a birthstone or a personal message etched along the inside will further contribute to the engagement ring’s unique feel. You might also want to consider the wedding band that you will be wearing after the wedding ceremony and how the two pieces of jewelry will go together.
The only disadvantage in creating your own wedding engagement ring is that it is usually more costly than simply selecting one from the store. You may want to cut down the cost by using lower-grade metals, lower carat weight stone or by reducing the amount of accents included on the ring. Nevertheless, these measures will not reduce the labor costs associated in building your own engagement ring. The hefty fee charged by jeweler for this service is due to its non cost-effective and time consuming process.
Having said all this, making the decision to build your own wedding engagement ring is one decision you will never regret. The opportunity to select the stone, metal, engravings, accents, and design for your engagement ring far surpasses the costs involved. And you will be creating a piece with a truly personal touch that will be cherished immediately – and for years to come!
