Cruise Ship Weddings Planning Ideas

Some of the most exciting wedding ceremonies have been performed on cruise ship and many cruise lines have them as an option. Friends and family can join in the fun and stay for the entire cruise or disembark at the conclusion of the ceremony before the couple heads out to sea to start their honeymoon. Planning will be needed as many times cruise ship wedding destinations cannot be legally performed at sea and some countries may not recognize the legality of the wedding if performed in international waters.

Cruise ship operators are more than willing to work with couple who want to plan a cruise ship wedding and will allow family and friends on board the ship a few hours before they sail so the wedding can take place on deck. In some instances the captain can officiate at the ceremony and in others clergy of the couples’ choosing is invited aboard to perform the ritual. At the conclusion of the wedding ceremony, the guests leave the ship and the couple can stay on board if their honeymoon is aboard the vessel.

There have been times when a couple have experienced cruise ship weddings while in a port of call on foreign soil but in many instances a civil ceremony was held prior to leaving their home country. Following the laws of the land of the port of call, the couples can experience cruise ship weddings in foreign waters or at high sea.

For many couple experiencing cruise ship weddings, they offer the type of romance only dreamed about. They can walk up the gang plank as an engaged couple and when the ship sets sail, they are husband and wife. Captains on some ships are authorized to perform the ceremonies in some countries and with the proper preparations the couple can be wed anywhere on the seas.

The laws of the country claiming sovereignty over the waters in which the wedding takes place will have to be followed, unless the couple held a ceremony at home and the cruise ship wedding is simply a repeat for the sake of the environment. The couple can usually have access to different parts of the ship if the appropriate arrangements have been made.

In rare instances the people attending cruise ship weddings will choose to stay on the ship as passengers, joining the couple in celebrating their first days as a married couple. In these cases the reception may tend to last for several days, instead of the usually few hours.
